Why have I chosen to study the use of text in teaching vocabulary to intermediate non-native students? First of all, because I consider that:

· a minimum vocabularyF is necessary according to the purpose, objectives and motivation of the learner;

· non-native students must have more solid knowledge of vocabulary than native learners because their mother tongue is not English, which means that their efforts to use English fluently in conversation are much worthier being taken into consideration as they have to be as spontaneous as possible;

· a foreign language cannot be learned and spoken without a solid acquisition of its vocabulary;

· without the necessary vocabulary, a teacher cannot plan authentic teaching of English;

· vocabulary is necessary for the acquisition of both grammar and literature, for the comprehension of all types of messages;

· vocabulary is also necessary for any human interaction;

· any communication process needs the knowing of both denotative (dictionary) and connotative (metaphorical, expressive) meanings;

· the acquiring of a solid, correct and diverse vocabulary makes any student confident;
